The Commonwealth of Virginia’s Return to Earn initiative provides money for small businesses to offer hiring incentives for new workers. This application is for businesses located within the city of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell.

Small businesses with fewer than 100 employees may be able to receive matching funds for the payment of bonuses to new hires. Eligible businesses can receive up to $500 per worker when they provide a matching amount as a hiring incentive. For example, a business that provides a $500 hiring bonus could receive an additional $500 through this program for a total incentive of $1,000 for the new worker. Childcare businesses may qualify for up to $500 per new hire without the requirement to match.

New hires must be working in a taxable (W-2) position that pays at least $15.00 per hour and can be either part-time or full-time. To qualify, new hires must self-attest that they were unemployed prior to being offered employment.

This electronic application will assist us in confirming eligibility and drafting a formal agreement for funding. All information must be provided in full to be considered. All information is considered confidential.
